Shenandoah Riding Center is just a short drive from the Inn. They offer 40 miles of groomed trails, which take advantage of the breathtaking beauty of The Galena Territory. On most Saturdays thoughout the summer and fall, we offer complimentary hayrides. Hayrides depart directly from the Inn approximately every half hour. Private hayrides are also available year-round. Call 815-776-5034 to book a private hayride for your group.
Horseback Riding Opportunities
Lead Line (10 minutes) Suggested Riding Level: First Timers
Departure Times: By Reservation
A chance for first-time riders, ages 2 to 8, to be guided on a horse while their parents walk alongside.
Shenandoah Trail Suggested Riding Level: Beginner
Departure Times: By Reservation
A relaxing one-hour trail ride. Before departing, your knowledgeable guide will meet with everyone to go over specific riding instructions. You will then depart with your guide though the wooded hills and valleys of the Shenandoah Trail. Minimum of 8 years old, 55 lbs. and 48 tall is required for this ride.
Canter Ride Suggested Riding Level: Intermediate
Departure Times: 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
A two-hour trail ride that takes the pace of a trot and gives you the opportunity to canter at the guides discression. The trail winds its way though the wooded hillsides of The Galena Territory. Minimum of 10 years old, 55 lbs. and 48 tall is required for this ride.
Territory Trail Suggested Riding Level Intermediate
Departure Times: By Reservation
A five-hour trail ride that includes a picnic lunch. You will ride though the panoramic ridges and ravines of the Territory Trail. The pace is tailored to the ability and wishes of the riders. Minimum of 10 years old, 55 lbs. and 48 tall is required for this ride.
