Horseback Riding in Galena, IL
The trails that weave through the Galena Territory are perhaps the most handsome and picturesque trails in the Midwest. In fact, they wind through terrain unlike any other in Illinois. Located in The Galena Territory, Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa features 20+ miles of paved and wilderness trails for hiking, biking, winter cross-country skiing and exploring.
The Shenandoah Riding Center, just six miles east of the City of Galena, shares the Territory with Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa and offers another means of enjoying these trails. Trail rides are available to our Illinois resort guests – even young ones – year-round from the local riding center.
The Shenandoah Riding Center is an equestrian facility – the only facility with access to the 40 miles of groomed trails in the Galena Territory. Guided trail rides can be reserved for Illinois resort guests who would like to take a short ride through the countryside. Or longer to day-long rides are available for the more experienced. Either way, the riding is of the finest quality; the guides are well-versed, and the horses are well-trained.
One horseback riding adventure available, the Shenandoah Trail Ride, is for our Illinois resort guests who are just beginning. It includes a one hour to forty-five minute relaxed walk and jog through calm forest hills and lush, green valleys at the Shenandoah Riding Center.
A Canter Trail Ride takes approximately two hours. This ride is for people who have done some riding (at least five times at faster than a walk) and feel secure enough to ride for longer over more challenging terrain. This ride is paced at a walk, trot and canter, all at the guide’s discretion. The Canter Trail Ride takes Illinois resort guests over beautiful trails through the undulating, wooded hills of the Galena Territory.
For those who would like to ride even longer, the riding center offers an full-day ride. The Territory Trail Ride includes approximately five hours of riding, stopping so Illinois resort guests can enjoy a picnic lunch. Ride through the stunning landscape of rugged hills, deep ravines and panoramic ridge tops of the Galena Territory. It is even more amazing from atop a horse.
